The Ludington Offshore Classic is one of the premier Great Lakes sports fishing tournaments. Ludington is considered one of, if not the best port on the Great Lakes for trout and salmon fishing, with tremendous facilities and a downtown within blocks of our marinas. The 2010 tournament will be held July 15-18. This is the height of our tourist season in Ludington with over 25,000 visitors taking advantage of miles of pristine beaches, the small town atmosphere and premier events (including one of the largest Gus Macker Basketball Tournaments in the US and this, the largest freshwater salmon tournament in the US). It also happens at peak time for fishing on Lake Michigan.
Over $65,000 in cash and prizes was awarded in the 2009 tournament (this is based on the number of entrants). The Ludington Offshore Classic consistently attracts over 900 participants. The 2009 breakdown was:
101 participants in the Youth Classic on Friday
64 Boats in the Ladies Pro/Am on Friday
98 Boats in the Amateur Division on Saturday & Sunday
33 Boats in the Pro Division on Saturday & Sunday
73 Boats participated in the Ruboy Memorial held on Thursday
Participants come from over 80 cities in Michigan as well as from Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin.
