 Celebrate A Week of Sweet Summer Art, Music, Food, and Fun July 10-16 in Ludington

Ludington MI:  The 2nd Annual Sweet Summer Celebration kicks off Sunday, July 10 with a musical brunch.  Highlights of the weeklong activities include a Wednesday concert by the Millennium Brass Quintet at the historic Epworth auditorium and a Thursday dance marathon at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts.  The Epworth auditorium is located at 1161 N. Lakeshore Drive in Ludington and the Center for the Arts is at 107 S. Harrison Street in downtown Ludington.

 

Throughout the week, the Center for the Arts will be the hub for a variety of arts and cultural activities. The Sweet Summer Celebration is designed to offer something for residents and visitors alike with a mix of entertainment and activities for all ages.  The current schedule of activities is:  

Sunday, July 10

  • 12-2 p.m. – Sweet Summer Musical Brunch. Local favorite, the talented Craig Avery will be on piano and vocals while you enjoy a special menu created by Chef Dante.  Tickets are $20 for members of the Ludington Area Center for the Arts and $25 for non-members.  Seating is limited, so please call the Center at 231-845-2787 to reserve your spot now.

 

Monday, July 11

  • 12-1 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: Introduction to Kindermusik
  • 1-2 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: “Women in the Civil War,” talk by Dr. Bill Anderson

 

Tuesday, July 12 – Saturday, July 16

  • 12-5:30 p.m. – Sweet Summer Art Exhibition in the Gallery

-- Visit The Muse, the gift shop at the Center

Tuesday, July 12

  • 12-1 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: Observe the artist – Rebecca Mott will be working on pottery in the gallery.
  • 1-2 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: Talk by photographer Todd Reed.

 

Wednesday, July 13

  • 12-1 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: “History of Ludington Street Names,” Talk by Jim Jensen
  • 1-2 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: Kids’ music workshop offered by Millennium Brass Quintet
  • 7:30 p.m. – Sweet Sounds of Summer: Millennium Brass Quintet in concert at Epworth Auditorium.  The public is invited to enjoy a concert at the historic Epworth Auditorium followed by a sunset reception on the porch of the Epworth Hotel.  $10 suggested donation.

 

Thursday, July 14

  • 12-1 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: Observe the artist – Draw Jam artists will be drawing from a Still Life.
  • 1-2 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: Create a Big Book for Wee Writers (3- to 6-years old).
  • 2 p.m. – Sweet Summer Social – ice cream provided by House of Flavors

Friday, July 15

  • 12-1 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: Talk by Photographer Ryan Reed
  • 1-2 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: Stained glass-making demonstration by Don Jensen
  • 6-9 p.m. – Friday Night Live in downtown Ludington

 

Saturday, July 16

  • 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. – Beacon on a Sweetwater Sea: Free tours of the North Breakwater Lighthouse in downtown Ludington.
  • 12-1 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: Music by Mike Lenich and Andy Thomas
  • 1-2 p.m. – Sweet Summer Sampler*: Needle felting demonstration by Linda Lenich
  • 5-7 p.m.: - Sweet Summer Soiree: wine-tasting, hors d’oeuvres, live music, and wine

wagon auction in the Courtyard of One Ludington Place Condominium.  $20 per person.

*Sweet Summer Sampler activities have a suggested donation of $2.

 

“We’re excited to showcase arts and culture in its many forms during this year’s Sweet Summer Celebration,” said Terry Murphy, executive director of the Ludington Area Center for the Arts.  “We are also grateful for all the partners who have stepped forward to sponsor this multi-day festival to benefit the Center.  They include Gray & Company, House of Flavors, Kari Karr Design/Marketing, Memorial Medical Center of West Michigan, Western Land Services, and West Shore Bank.
